So, you want to become a doula? Here are some frequently asked questions about becoming a doula to help you along your journey!

 

Do I have to have a college degree to become a doula?

No! No college experience is required. All you need is a passion for moms, fathers, and babies!

Do I have to be a woman to become a doula?

No! Men are encouraged to join us. All you need is a passion for mothers, fathers, and babies!

How long do I have to complete the doula training?

You have six months from the time you start your cohort to complete the training and receive your certification. This is a 16-week live training. All live sessions are required to join.  All assignments and sessions must be completed in 16 weeks to join our Ascension Day. 

Can I be certified with more than one organization?

Yes! Many experienced doulas want to continue their education and train with DBA as a way to grow and become better doulas. The access to the expert facilitators and Melanin-focused curriculum at DBA draws doulas to want to gain better or more expertise. 

Am I too young to become a doula?

If you are able to read this and complete the training, then you aren’t too young to become a doula! In fact, you could be a wonderful asset to a young mom who would prefer having a peer support her after the birth of her baby.

Do I have to have children to become a doula?

No, many doulas start their work without having children of their own. 

I’m interested in becoming a doula, am I too old?

No! There are no age restrictions on becoming a doula. Many women decide to become a doula once their children start having children, as they want to be up to date on the best information to help doula their own children. Some women decide to become a doula once their children leave the home. The possibilities are endless.

When can I start working with clients?

Most doulas start working with clients after they have completed the online training while they are finishing up the final exam. Some doulas start as soon as their cohort begins for practice.

After completion of the doula training and certification, will I be prepared to work as a doula soon?

Yes, we train our students in all the skills necessary to start working as a doula right away. Our training is very thorough, and our students feel confident to jump right in.

When do I receive my official doula certification?

Becoming a doula is such an exciting event! You will receive your official certification, which allows you to put the letters CHD next to your name within 14-30 days of completion of all requirements and your Ascension Day. 

When do I need to re-certify?

Recertification is every three years and costs $100 to process everything. You are required to complete 3 continuing education classes every 3 years and submit 3 surveys from your clients.
